Our Focus
The burden of cancer is high in Asia, with cancer mortality to incidence ratios higher than the west, even though cancer incidence rate is lower. Due to genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors, some cancers have higher incidence in parts of Asia, like nasopharyngeal and bile duct cancers. There are no simple solutions, but Precision Healthcare will do our part to provide effective and affordable therapies to as many cancer patients as possible.
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among ethnic Asian groups. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also called human herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4), is a virus of the herpes family, and is one of the most common viruses in humans. The association between EBV infection and NPC is well documented and cells with EBV genome are present in virtually all NPC cells. We have a highly sensitive and specific test for the detection of EBV DNA, thus allowing ENT physicians to diagnose NPC earlier.
In addition, we are also sourcing for therapeutics that will help treat ENT patients.
Cervical cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Asia. However, it usually has no symptoms till they manifest and diagnosed late. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the silent virus behind cervical cancer. There are more than 100 types of HPV, and at least fourteen are recognised to cause cancer. Among them are genotypes HPV 16 and 18, which cause 70 per cent of cervical cancer and pre-cancerous lesions. Precision Healthcare is working towards an affordable, accurate and convenient diagnostic test to detect these high-risk HPV genotypes in women.
